October 2015 The past 5 months have been busy. Work on The Savoy Cinema, Stockport was completed (with Building Regs Approval and Planning Consent obtained- see elevation drawing). The boutique cinema opened last week. More photos to follow soon. Building Regs Approval was also obtained for my Clients on the large property extension in Suffolk with building operations to commence soon. The practice has further cinema work in the pipeline and other residential commissions. Watch out also for more stimulating articles on the cinema design front which, as usual, will be posted on LinkedIn.

May 2015 Our recent practice news include the following: a) full planning permission obtained from West Suffolk Council in March for a large property extension in Suffolk for private clients, b) recent commission include the design of a 3-storey house in Derbyshire for a private client, c) ongoing refurbishment of a disused cinema into a boutique cinema in the Manchester area, d) recent cinema articles posted on LinkedIn in March include a book review of ‘Lure of The Big Screen’ (author: Karina Aveyard). More news soon…

December 2014 The practice has been appointed to provide a full architectural service for internal alterations and a large residential extension to a property in Suffolk. It is also currently working on a new build mixed use leisure/penthouse development in East Anglia. Recent cinema articles by Bill Chew have been posted on LinkedIn. These are entitled 'Agents of Change: Design Trends in the Independent Cinema Sector (A Personal View)' and 'Rural Cinema (Pssst...is Alive and Well in Suffolk'. More cinema articles and book reviews will follow in due course.

September 2013 Community cinemas are becoming the flavour of the month; article to appear in Screen Trade magazine in the February 2014 issue featuring interesting new and previous community cinema projects.

April 2013 Bill Chew Architect Ltd has signed up to take part in Architect in the House - the joint charitable initiative by Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and Shelter.

March 2013 Article on 'Return of The Regal-Melton's 'New' Independent Cinema' by Bill Chew published in Cinema Technology magazine, March 2013. The Regal was closed in June 2012. This article provides information about the cinema's new owners, what they have done with the refurbishment of the cinema and trends in the independent sector.
